Founder and Director

Gift Egbelu

Gift Egbelu is the founder & Director of the HBCU Rugby Classic. In addition he is a producer, marketer and promoter, podcaster, and overall content creator within the rugby industry, who really loves traveling internationally, watching and analyze movies, and have great conversations with random people.

Born in State College, PA, to Nigerian immigrants, Gift was raised in Ames, IA and resides in Baton Rouge, LA. He gradutated from the University of South Florida, where he happened to get his first experiences with playing rugby.

Gift Egbelu created the HBCU Rugby Classic with the intention of not only providing greater awareness to HBCU’s and their rugby programs, but also to provide an event that would serve as a place to find opportunity for BIPOC rugby players and students. Knowing that rugby can be a unique vehicle that can lead to opportunities that many BIPOC may not have known about, Gift Egbelu wanted a place where culture could come together with community.

Gift Egbelu continues to work to bring the rugby experience, to the community and cultural lifestyle, in unique and interesting ways.
