HBCU Rugby Classic Returns For Its Second Year

The premier rugby event for Historically Black College and University Rugby

Baton Rouge, LA – The HBCU Rugby Classic will return to Baton Rouge for the second year. On March 30, 2019, the HBCU Rugby Classic will take place at Istrouma High School. The HBCU Rugby Classic is the premier rugby event for HBCU Rugby teams, providing a spotlight to promote HBCU’s, HBCU rugby programs, and the cultures associated with them.

This year, the HBCU Rugby Classic will be partnering with PeduL, a crowdfunding platform where students can raising tuition for college, and Memphis Inner City Rugby, a community program that works to expand academic and athletic opportunities in low-income communities through the power of rugby. With these organizations, the HBCU Rugby Classic will be able to fulfill the mission of promoting education and community development through rugby. Part of the proceeds for this event will be used to establish a scholarship fund for a students who are interested in attending an HBCU organization.

The HBCU Rugby Classic will present multiple exhibition matches featuring teams from high school leading to the headliner match between two rugby programs from HBCU’s. The event will kick off with a concert prior to the matches, featuring artists from around the region.
